Simon was the Eagles' standout performer in their 3-1 victory over Sudan by Johnny Edward

The Eagles qualified for the round of 16 at the ongoing 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon on Saturday with a 3-1 win over Sudan in Garoua. JOHNNY EDWARD rates how the players fared in the encounter

Maduka Okoye: He failed to keep a clean sheet but it was no fault of his, conceding from the penalty spot in the 70th minute of the encounter. The 22-year-old was rarely tested but did make two brilliant saves. First, he saved from Mohammed Mahammed in the 14th minute and another from Khedr Daiyeen. RATING: 5

Ola Aina: The Torino wing-back’s evening was marred by a rash tackle in the penalty box, with South African ref Victor Gomes awarding a penalty against the Eagles. Aside that error, the former Fulham defender had a decent performance. RATING: 5

Kenneth Omeruo: Posted another impressive performance alongside William Troost-Ekong and distributed the ball well. He made a timely tackle to deny Daiyeen a chance on goal in the 78th minute. RATING: 6

William Troost-Ekong: Had a commanding display in defence and offered Aina more opportunities to join the attack from the right flank. RATING: 6

Zaidu Sanusi: The FC Porto defender was solid in defence but he rarely joined the attack when needed. RATING: 5

Wilfred Ndidi: The Leicester City man marshalled the Eagles midfield perfectly but was guilty of some misplaced passes. His partnership with Joe Aribo is growing game by game. RATING: 6
